German motorhome manufacturing giant,
Hobby, is now established in the UK, with
a strong dealer network and a number
of service centres, which don’t sell its
motorhomes but do service and repair them.
For 2015, the company launched a range
of new campervans – the first campervans
it’s ever built – and an entire new range of
Fiat Ducato-based coachbuilts.
The new campervan range, which starts
at £44,500, features five models, all again
based on Fiat’s new Ducato. They’re the
medium-wheel base Vantana K55 (5.41m),
the long-wheelbase K60 (5.99m) and the
extra-long K65 (6.3m). The remaining
two are variants of the K60 and K65 and
are denoted with a T after their name
The initial trio have central washrooms
complete with shower, toilet and
washbasin, while the ‘T’ variants have more
traditional side washrooms.
They all come with fixed rear beds
(doubles in the K55 and K60 and twin
singles in the K65). All are two-berth but can
carry four passengers and come with the
option of individual Aguti rear travel seats.
The other big news from Hobby is the
arrival of a new range of coachbuilts – the
Optima range, which has been launched to
fill the gap between Hobby’s
flagship Premium range
and its entry Siesta range.
The price difference between
the two ranges was significant
and the Optima sits right in this gap:
the expected price of the first model within
the range – the V 65 GE – starts from just
under £50,000.
All nine models are based on the face-
lifted Fiat Ducato and have roofs and floors
that are GRP-coated and abrasion proof.
They are all also fitted with the more thermo-
efficient XPS insulation. In addition, all the
Optimas have Hobby’s Thermofloor, which
houses all the pipework.
Other changes from Hobby include a new
exterior design for the entry-level Siesta.
The flagship Premium also sees storage
enhanced by the lowering of the rear section.
Finally, look out for the special thirtieth
anniversary editions, which are high-spec
special versions of the Premium 65 GE. But
there are only 12 coming to the UK, so if you
want one, be quick!
