A
lways a favourite destination among the touring
fraternity, Scotland will in 2014 become the focus
of much world attention – and for a variety of reasons.
Sports fans will head for Glasgow in July and
August for the 20th Commonwealth Games,
while golf a cionados will in September look to
Gleneagles in Perthshire for the Ryder Cup. This is
only the second time in its 80-year history that the
pre-eminent international golf tournament will be
held in the country that gave birth to the game.
Meanwhile, those interested in world a airs and
politics will be watching the nation as it casts its vote
on independence from the UK.
This ancient land already claims more than its fair
share of myth, legend, and culture, and the chances
are that more of each will be created during the year
that Visit Scotland has labelled its ‘homecoming’.
