Start Art 8 63 www.painters-online.co.uk RT START STAGE 8 Add more blue to the bottom right corner over the plain white board as well as over areas of the distant moorland.Apply the paint quite randomly to achieve a broken surface, allowing the underlying colours to show through. STAGE 9 Mix a little blue lake with plenty of titanium white (right) to create a pale blue sky. This mixed colour is used to scrub in the sky area. By ‘scrub’ I mean to really rub the paint into the surface, which helps to create a variance of tone depending on the underlying colour, again allowing the yellows and reds to glow through. STAGE 10 While you have the sky colour on your brush add a touch of water and scrub the brush over the distant moorland. This will help to knock the hills into the distance creating instant perspective. STAGE 11 Mix a little dark colour using burnt sienna and phthalo blue, to be used to block in the roof shapes, windows and doors. STAGE 12 Now it’s time for a little more work on the cottages.Add just a touch of burnt sienna to your existing sky colour to create a blue grey before brushing over your dark roof shapes. At this stage be sure not to be too accurate, these are old cottage roofs so the more distressed the better. t t t t t
