December 2020 | January 2021 NEWS 08 The Heat Pump Association has released a new report outlining the steps it believes the UK Government must take to shape future policy and decarbonise the heating industry. Published shortly before the Government announced its 10-point plan to tackle climate change, including the installation of 600,000 heat pumps every year by 2028, the HPA report aims to substantially shake up the existing frameworks and introduce regulatory, impactful, and meaningful changes in the heating sector, paving the way for mass deployment of low carbon heating. GrahamWright, Chairman of the HPA, said: “This report could not come at a more pertinent time. The push for a Green Recovery from Covid-19 has put the UK in a unique position to be able to develop new and innovative policy that works to tackle the negative eˆects of the pandemic whilst working towards net zero. The regulations suggested in this paper undoubtably oˆer the Government a road to recovery for the heating industry that is green and saves energy and money for the UK.’’ The full report is available at http://ow.ly/m8zE50ChUvH HPA PUBLISHES NEW REPORT ON THE ROAD TO NET ZERO Daikin expands circular economy programme Daikin says the expansion of its circular economy programme will prevent 250,000kg of virgin refrigerant being produced yearly. In 2019, Daikin UK introduced the use of reclaimed refrigerant allocated to VRV IV+ systems and VRV IV S-series units during production, as part of its Partner with Confidence programme. The initial quantity of reclaimed refrigerant allocated to these units avoided more than 300,000 tons of CO2eq from being generated in the production of virgin refrigerant. Daikin Europe is now expanding its approach to all VRV units manufactured and sold across Europe from this month (November 2020) under the LooP by Daikin initiative.
