The new activity centre for Gresham’s School in Holt, Norfolk, includes high ropes, low ropes and assault courses together with a mess room and bunkhouse. Its centrepiece is the 25m high Bourdillon Tower. Named after Old Greshamian mountaineer, Tom Bourdillon, the climbing tower provides access to the high ropes and a 200-metre zip wire. The activity centre project was initiated by the Trustees of a charity closely connected to Gresham’s, the London Children’s Camp, whose primary function is to provide outward bounds holidays to disadvantaged children. Located in woodland within the school campus, the facility will enable the charity to provide holidays at Gresham’s as well as opportunities for pupils and visitors to the school to learn new skills and undertake physical activities. Douglas Robb, headmaster of Gresham’s School, said: “This is a fantastic facility, which enables us to offer more for our pupils and visitors. All our staff and pupils are looking forward to making the most of it.” News Summer 2018 www.theisba.org.uk 6 GRESHAM’S SCHOOL HAS ONE OF BRITAIN’S TALLEST CLIMBING TOWERS An innovative mental health and wellbeing programme, which is taking Australia by storm, has had its UK launch at Heathfield School in Ascot, where it forms part of a positive approach to help students develop the ‘pillars’ of good mental health to stay well and optimise quality of life. Rather than identifying those in distress or ‘at risk’, the ‘Flourishing at School’ programme aims to improve positive emotions, engagement, positive relationships, meaningfulness and accomplishment. It also promotes physical health through sport, nutrition, fitness and sleep. Woven into the Dragon experience is a deep and compassionate awareness of social and environmental issues, and learning about how to tackle challenges faced in a global era.
