Making the right connections Dealing with refrigerant is a tricky job, so when connecting ACR pipes it’s essential that they don’t leak. Andy Harvey, Product Manager for JAVAC UK, explains how JAVAC has you covered when it comes to tube tools. EQUIPMENT 32 June | July 2020 Volume 6 No.4 www.JAVAC.co.uk Essential to most HVAC jobs where a pipe connection is needed, swaging and flaring tools are perhaps some of the most important pieces of kit in an engineer’s toolbox. Swaging is the ideal solution for connecting pipes in longer pipe runs. Using high quality tools, such as JAVAC’s Edge Expander or Edge 2-In-1 Flaring and Swaging Tool, results in excellent connections that can be brazed together to avoid leaks. The JAVAC Edge Expander o‡ers speed and ease of use when it comes to pipe connections. And not only does it save hassle and time, it gives a professional finish too, making small to large pipework joining installations a breeze. With ergonomic thermoplastic rubber handles, it makes light work of swaging pipe with a quick pump action and comes with six blade heads for precision and consistency. This includes a Š” expander head, which do not usually come as standard with these types of tools. Other sizes range from 3/8” to 1-1/8”. On some sites, hot works such as brazing aren’t allowed so using flaring to join pipework is necessary. A flare nut is used to make the join and so it’s essential whenever you use a flaring tool to remember to put the nut on before you flare! JAVAC’s Edge 2-In-1 Flaring and Swaging Tool is ideal for this job too, along with the JAVAC Edge Eccentric Flaring Kit. The JAVAC Edge 2-In-1 Flaring and Swaging Tool gives precision results for flaring and swaging, clamping the pipe in place for optimum results. Its easy to use 2-in-1 one design makes it ideal for both jobs, meaning there are less tools to carry and extra room in the van! Made from a high-grade lightweight aluminium alloy, the Edge 2-in-1 features a tube positioning plate to ensure the tube is set at the correct position for all sizes, taking away the guesswork of getting the right height. It also features an indexing mechanism that provides accurate alignment when switching between di‡erent hole positions on the flaring bar. The Diamond Flaring Cone has a unique ‘socket fitting’, so when attached, the cone is allowed to spin as you turn the handle. Meanwhile, the swaging heads have a ‘round fitting’ ensuring the heads do not spin, creating an accurate swage and a perfectly smooth finish. And the quick coupler allows fast switching between these heads. Alternatively, the JAVAC Edge Eccentric Flaring Kit features a ratchet type flaring tool with an eccentric flaring cone providing a smooth finish on all flares. Highly recommended for joints on high pressure systems (R410A), it creates the perfect flare every time with its tube positioning plate. Designed specifically to make an engineer’s job easier, JAVAC’s flaring and swaging tools are simple to transport and use, while o‡ering JAVAC’s market- leading performance.
