www.wcmh.co.uk 9 You get just as warm a welcome at our Swindon site Here’s a brief history of West Country Motorhomes, from the year it all started right up to today 2003 We looked to expand, with the opening of a second retail site, at Swindon. At the same time, we’d been developing our Somerset base, enhancing the aftersales side of our Brent Knoll premises. 2003 was also the year that… London introduces its Congestion Charge… Concorde makes its final commercial flight… England become the rugby world champions… Time magazine lists the iTunes Music Store as its Invention of the Year! 2008 Our attention turned again to Swindon, where on- going success meant we’d been on the lookout for bigger premises. We found these at our current Turnpike Road location, developing the whole location to our standards and appointing Steve Cant as our Sales Manager here. 2008 was also the year that… Lewis Hamilton becomes the youngest ever Formula One world champion… Woolworths announces it’s to close all its stores in the UK…the UK records its biggest earthquake (5.2 on the Richter scale) in 25 years, the worldwide economy crashes! 2011 Two significant changes are made to our sales team this year. Steve’s son Max joins the sta in a full- time capacity, while already long-serving member Steve Taylor is promoted to Sales Manager. Our future is in safe hands! 20011 was also the year that… the UK records its second warmest year on record (after 2006)…over 50% of the population are now using mobile internet… and VAT increased from 17.5% to 20%! 2014 Further work at the Brent Knoll sales site sees capacity doubling. We also pick up our latest in a long run of Customer Satisfaction Awards, as voted by the readers of Practical Motorhome magazine. This time around, though, we did the double, scooping the prizes for Best Supplying Dealer for New Motorhomes and a Gold prize for our used motorhome sales. 2014 was also the year that… Scotland votes no to independence… it’s the warmest Halloween since 1968… some of us take the Ice Bucket Challenge (also raising money for the ALS neurodegenerative disease charity)! 2016 Another major development, as we opened our all-new, dedicated Aftersales Centre at Brent Knoll. Designed to serve both our retail outlets, it further underlines our commitment to quality customer service and care. 2016 was also the year that… Tim Peake is the first oicial British spaceman to do a spacewalk… Land Rover produces the last of its iconic Defenders… the UK votes to leave the EU… the first polymer banknote, £5, goes out.
