They also place a duty on those who appoint them to take reasonable steps to ensure that the people they appoint meet this requirement. FIS continues to look at how the Bill will impact our community and will keep members up-to-date with developments. In the meantime, we’ve have prepared an initial summary of the key implications that you can read here www.thefis.org/2022/05/16/building-safety-act-published-2 We are committed to supporting our members with compliance and ensuring the Bill supports better safety and a more collaborative approach to procurement. Related to the Building Safety Bill, on page 8 of this issue, we launch the FIS Competency Passport that will allow individuals to manage achievement in any form (education, training, qualification and experience) by storing digital records in one secure place. On page 10, we bring you an unusual story that restores one’s faith in human nature; FIS supports Bounce Back, a training provider, charity and social enterprise focused on the training and employment of people in and leaving prison. For the companies that provide the practical help and jobs, it’s not an entirely altruistic exercise by any means, the scheme benefits everyone involved including our sector as it helps to plug the skills shortage. As FIS member, Justin Devaney explains in the article, it should be down to every company in the UK to voluntarily seek out ways to help less fortunate people. Now, I have reached the age where the state kindly steps in to fund my lavish lifestyle. So from the September 2022 issue you will have a new editor, David Crowson. I am not giving up work completely, just reducing my hours and will be hovering about in the background as David settles in. I will miss this community and everyone at FIS dreadfully, it has been my pleasure and great privilege to work with you and I wish you continued success. Excuse me now while I get on with my knitting. Please let us know about your projects and company news as we do like to feature members as much as we can. It was a bit last minute and it’s years since we last entered, but Exton Vineyard was a project we were honoured to be involved in. We are a very humble company and don’t blow our own trumpet or get involved with social media - but we will now! ” Richard Scevity, Director, New Forest Ceilings ( www.newforestceilings.co.uk )
