Spec Finish
Victorian office refurbishment with doors and partitions by Forza Doors Split over the basement, ground, and three upper floors, the Charles Doll Building on Grape Street, London, offers a contemporary and functional specification in this stunning office refurbishment. The development mixes industrial elements with a crisp modern aesthetic by carefully combining characterful architectural features, including vaulted ceilings with exposed brick and steelwork. The lobby mixes vibrant contemporary wall art with industrial light fittings and brickwork. Forza’s in-house CAD team planned the bespoke black oak Firescreen partition wall to match the architect’s design. As a market leading passive fire product, this Firescreen provides both integrity from smoke and fire and insulation from heat. This is important because in a fire emergency heat has been shown to ignite secondary fires to items, such as curtains or carpets, that are near the other side of non-insulated partitions. Via the Thinking Space Design & Build, Forza Doors supplied 20 FD30 Fire Doors with stained frames and skirting boards to match throughout the five floors of The Charles Doll Building. Chosen to match the steelwork throughout the development, the dark satin finish of the doors was selected from Forza’s Creato range of dyed veneers. This ‘Illunis’ finish is one of 12 fashionable choices in the range. Dyed veneers are an increasingly popular choice with designers as they offer cost savings over stained veneers without compromising quality. The doors with glass vision panels, required to allow light through to the stairwells, feature a flush and quirk bead. Aminimalist design option where one side of the doors is completely flush right up to the glass vision panel and the other side has a very simple elegant bead detailing. www.forza-doors.com NEWS COMMUNITY www.thefis.org 27 Paramount announce new leadership team to spearhead growth Fit-out, design and build specialists Paramount announced the appointment of Richard Jones as Chief Executive Officer in a move that will accelerate the company’s growth. The company’s StoThermMineral M insulation system, StoCleyer B brick slips and StoSilco external render have been installed on five buildings that make up the latest phases of the Riverside development in Canterbury. “This is an extremely high-profile development which sits on an 8.4 acre site in the centre of the historic city’s new leisure quarter,” explains Chris Lane of PRC Architecture & Planning. “This exerted a considerable influence on every aspect of the project, including the selection of the materials. Sto worked very closely with us and the other parties involved to provide a large number of samples and help us select the most appropriate façade finish and colours. Their input was also very valuable when it came to designing the different insulation detailing that was required around the windows on the various buildings.” This Riverside development now provides a variety of leisure, commercial, residential and student accommodation buildings. www.sto.co.uk Sto’s bespoke package of external wall insulation, brick slips and render on the new£115million Riverside development in Canterbury.
