23 AT Jones undertook the design and installation of the SFS structure for Poole Gateway at BournemouthUniversity, a £20mteaching facility that provides amulti-faceted prismatic structure between the campus and adjoining town. Due to the complexity of the steel frame, the SFS was often cleated and oversailed the structure and, where possible, AT Jones proposed the use of a ‘score and snap’ gypsum-based sheathing board. The structure comprised a steel frame with high storeys over three levels and composite concrete floor decks split into two either side of an 18matrium. The façade, effectively cantilevered off the building, involved a complex steel frame, and to overcome structural tolerances and provide a level background for the cladding, the SFS had to be installed to tight tolerances. On the bulk of the elevations, the SFS was installed as continuous and bracketed to the substructure using bespoke oblique angle brackets.
