23 Veitchi used its light gauge steel frame system in this four-storey 24-bedroomextension to an existing hotel. With a seven-week programme, quick turnaround and completion timewas crucial. Delivered to site in pre-panellised form, the steel frame reduced the need for multiple deliveries and required only a handful of installers to erect it. As the hotel is in Edinburgh city centre, this meant that articulated vehicles could not access the site, so extra procedures for offloading and reloading were required to deliver external and internal walls and concrete for the floors. Due to the restricted access, Veitchi used a bespoke edge protection system for use within the Metframe LGSF solution. Lift shafts, stair cores, stairs and concrete floors were also provided by Veitchi. Tight tolerances ensured the new extension was securely fixed to the existing building and the rapid installation process gave follow-on trades earlier access to the building. The extension was tied into the existing building in far less time than a conventional build.” CONTRACTORS AWARDS2022 WINNER
