15 Southampton-based specialist contractor Broadsword worked as part of a multi-discipline supply and installation package on three buildings at theWest Downs Centre of the University of Winchester. Works were carried out on the theatre, a teaching block and a library over two floors, each with their own challenges around acoustic requirements and the interface and co-ordination between trades. The architectural highlights of the completed building include a sloping timber slat andMF ceiling to the first floor of the library, and timber open-slatted ceilings in the dining hall to achieve an industrial look. In addition, Broadsword was responsible for: acoustic partitions and plastering; MF ceilings and margins; corridor ceilings to form a visual walkway through the learning block; baffles in classrooms, library and communal areas; timber sound reflector panels in the theatre; acoustic rafts and ceilings; and acoustic render and timber for the contemplation space dome.
