Spec Finish
13 The Liverpool Street project is a mixed use commercial and retail space, with the works spanning interior and exterior spaces. The curved and complex design of the wall and ceiling panels across the project presented a range of challenges, whichmeant different moulds had to be used. The intricacy of the ceiling design also led to Simplicity having to produce 3Dmodels prior to making themoulds to see how the curved shapes would come together and be hung. A flaw-free finish was required on the glass reinforced concrete (GRC) panels. This meant the GRCmixes had to be exactly right. And to add to the challenge, the panels could not be acid-etched, nor could imperfections be sanded away – the panels had to come out of themoulds perfectly. In addition, the panels had to be installed in a way that meant they were not supported by the existing walls. To achieve this, Simplicity designed and made a purpose-built structural steel frame, which enabled it to install the panels independently of any other wall structure.
