STAGE 2 Now lightly hatch in the shading and tone of the iris and pupil. First use a medium-hard pencil such as an HB. Darker areas, such as the pupils, can be emphasised with a soft pencil. Light reflections must be left blank. STAGE 3 Now shade the darkest areas with the soft pencil (4B). Sharpen this pencil well for drawing the eyelashes. That way, you can draw the lashes along the eyelid thickly, but then run them out to thin lines. Important contours, such as folds in the eyelids, are gone over again.Add other detailing such as the radial pattern of the iris. STAGE 3 Finally, emphasise the deeper shading with a soft pencil (4B) and strengthen the contours of the sides of the nose and the nostrils. Demonstration: Nose from front view Plot the triangular shape of the nose Shape the nose with hatching Deepen the shading where required STAGE 1 Starting with a guiding triangle, draw the outlines of the nose with the HB pencil. Draw the tip of the nose, the sides and the nostrils symmetrically around the midline. STAGE 2 Erase your guidelines and add shading with diagonal hatching, so that the shape of the nose starts to become visible. Draw in the nostrils and shape the upper edge, lightly fading out below. Nose The nose is often the most typical feature of a face. The only bone is in the top third. The individual shape of the nose comes from cartilage and the fibrous fatty tissue from which the nostrils are made. The basic shape of the nose can be compared with a triangle (wedge), yet there are very many different kinds of noses: snub noses, aquiline noses, straight, hooked, narrow or wide noses. A person’s right eye is on the left side of the face when you are looking at it. However, it is drawn as the right eye in relation to the person opposite
