To help smooth out the finish of a completed drawing, blend the coloured pencil with the point of a paper stump. Step 3 In the second layer, apply medium pressure with the purple pencil to build up colour and depth over the whole pansy as well as crinkled detailing around the edges of the petals. In the throat area, add orange and light green. Step 4 We learnt in the colour wheel exercise that blue layered with red creates purple. We can therefore use crimson to layer over the outer areas of the petals to create a more pink-purple colour. Then layer dark blue and light blue over the purple in the central areas of the petals to create a bluish-purple colour. Increase pressure on the pencil to intensify the colour. Step 5 With heavy pressure, add black for the darkest markings and vein patterns on the lower three petals. The finished drawing Pansy , coloured pencil on drawing paper, 7 x 5in. (18 x 13cm)
