START RT 17 Start Art FEBRUARY 2020 www.painters-online.co.uk 7 Gently remove the masking fluid by rubbing it with your finger. 8 Use a No. 1 Rigger brush with various mixes of the colours already used to suggest distant trees. 9 Add darker details to the trunks of the silver birch trees, then add the branches. 10 Lightly wet the foreground tree trunk. Use a No. 6 Round brush and a No. 1 Rigger brush to drop in French ultramarine and burnt umber. Do not paint the base of the trunk, as it is bathed in mist. 11 Use a No. 1 Rigger brush and French ultramarine to paint in the further branches. 12 Gradually introduce deeper, warmer tones of burnt umber to paint the branches in the middle distance then the darker foreground ones. 13 Suggest fine twigs at the top of the tree using a No. 12 Round brush and French ultramarine mixed with burnt umber. Use weaker washes on the tops of the other trees.
