Using the technique On one of my painting holiday cruises around the Croatian islands we made an excursion to Krka falls, which was fantastic. The area is made up of a succession of lakes and waterfalls that culminate in this tremendous series of falls. There really was ‘water, water everywhere’! Back on the boat I decided to paint up this series of falls whilst the experience was so fresh in my mind and couldn’t wait to get something down on paper. After mixing up all my rock colours, I started to drop in some lovely rich colours. Before they dried completely, I went into them with more paint to produce backruns. If you study the painting, you’ll see where they are. They are especially noticeable on the rocks, where they give the impression of lichen. ▲ Krka Falls, Croatia , 11¾ x 11¾in. (30.5 x 30.5cm)
