This is a really fun picture so keep your colour mixes nice and clean to get that super autumnal feel. This is where the spattering technique really comes into its own. Start by grabbing all your lightest colours and use the mix of Indian yellow and cadmium orange for the foliage – don’t forget to use the same colours for the leaves on the ground. Then build up the stronger reds with a mix of rose madder and manganese violet. For the light-hued background trees, I used the two yellow-blue mixes below. For the trunks and background trees, I used the dark French ultramarine and cadmium orange mix. MIXES USED IN THIS PAINTING ▲ Autumn , 16½ x 26¾in.
