FLOWERS www.painters-online.co.uk Step 16 1 I decided to paint a panel in gouache which would nicely cover what I no longer wanted. I took my colour reference from one of the fabrics I selected at the beginning. I began to block in the colour: use a very fine brush to cut round the edges of the flowers. If you make a mistake with the gouache you will not be able to remove it. 2 Continue with a larger brush to fill in the background – I like to work round the delicate edges first, then block in the larger areas. 3 Continue to block in the gouache background. You may find it easier to turn your painting upside down. Step 17 1 Review the painting as a whole: the dark panel has made some of the detail on the white flowers less apparent. Paint in some stronger greens using a mix of indigo and green gold. 2 Continue to work along the flowers, adjusting the tonal values using the stronger green paint.
