48 Summer 2022 NEWS BEN CARRIES COMMONWEALTH BATON Members of the HAE EHA team recently joined Direct Administrator Beth Croot, and her family and friends, to cheer Beth’s brother Ben on as he carried a baton for The Commonwealth Games. The Commonwealth Games is an international multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The event was first held in 1930 and this year Birmingham is the host city. In the lead-up to the Commonwealth Games, the Queen’s Baton relay has taken place, travelling across all 72 nations and territories in the Commonwealth. The relay began in October 2021, with Her Majesty the Queen placing her message to the Commonwealth into the Baton. The journey aims to connect different communities and embrace each unique culture, with the final destination in Birmingham, to mark the start of the games. Amongst the 2,022 baton carriers (for the year 2022), was Ben, who is 14 years old and was chosen by his school for his commitment to sport and extra-curricular activities.
