44 Summer 2022 PUBLIC AFFAIRS UPDATE UK POLITICS e Prime Minister has announced that he will stand down as Conservative Party Leader following a series of decisions and actions leading to awithdrawal in support for his premiership by fellow Conservative MPs. erefore, a leadership contest is underway, the result of which will be known in early September and the new Prime Minister will take o ce on September 6th or 7th. In the meantime, Mr Johnson has announced an interim government to ll the vacancies resulting from more than 50 recent ministerial and aide resignations. Some of the ministers who resigned have been reappointed, but not all. e list of ministers can be found at www.gov.uk/government/ministers . A new Prime Minister might decide to recast the shape of Whitehall or retain the current departments, Cabinet portfolios and other ministerial roles. All will be revealed in September when Parliament will be back from the Summer Recess.
