Summer 2022 03 A VIEW FROM ON HIGH PAUL GAZE, CEO, UPDATES ON THE LATEST AT HAE EHA W e are in the midst of another turbulent time for UK politics. With an interim government and caretaker Prime Minister in place, attention will turn to early September when the result of the Conservative leadership election is known. This will be a reset opportunity for a government which has been diverted from its core agenda by a succession of political challenges. We await the outcome and any changes to the machinery of government. There are some key initiatives being undertaken by the hire sector for which government recognition will be advantageous. The #UnitedforMentalStrength campaign aims to connect the wider hire industry to share experiences, information, and ideas with one another to accelerate the levels of mental health support across the industry. The first event for this initiative was held in April, with HAE EHA and United for Mental Strength Ambassador, Asif Latief, joined by companies and colleagues from across the sector. The next #UnitedforMentalStrength event will focus on Financial Wellbeing and is planned for 15th September. If you want to get involved, please email unitedformentalstrength@hae.org.uk . HAE EHA is also pushing ahead with its efforts to persuade the Treasury to alter the scope of capital allowance policy so this better reflects the way most construction equipment is provided - by hire rather than owned fleets. The green transition will require targeted support to help businesses to meet the costs, yet the super deduction (expiring in 2023) has mostly excluded the hire sector. We are working with other trade bodies and discussing this topic with BEIS (as the sponsor department for construction). We want to help shape a joint submission to the Treasury this autumn. The HAE EHA Golf Day will take place at The Nottinghamshire Golf & Country Club, Cotgrave, Nottingham, on Wednesday, September 14th 2022. I do hope many of you will take part, as our golf days have been an enjoyable opportunity to network and refresh golfing proficiency! If you have questions or would like more information, please call us on 0121 380 4608 or send an email to marketing@hae.org.uk . << A RESET OPPORTUNITY WHERE AWARENESS CAN BE RAISED Paul Gaze CEO As PM Boris Johnson waves his goodbyes, a new government could bring a fresh outlook for the hire industry.
