14 Summer 2022 GOING FOR GREEN T wo leading construction companies are ramping up their environmental credentials while extending their JCB eets. e largest building company on the Isle of Wight, MCM Construction, has bought three new electric JCB machines – adding to a three-strong existing electric JCB eet. e new JCB 19C-1E mini excavator, 1TE site dumper and 525-60E Loadall models join a further Loadall, electric Dumpster and power pack for quick charging the machines. ey will be used on school, hospital and prison projects on the island. Supplied by dealer Greenshields JCB, the new eet is giving MCM Construction fully electric operation with zero emissions at the point of use, comparable performance to diesel counterparts and considerably quieter machines. Each can deliver full day’s typical operation on a single charge. MCM Construction Director, Brendan McMahon said: “As a company, we need to look towards the future and electric is the way to go. We already have a number of JCB electric machines and are investing in electric hand tools too. We have bought the electric variant of every machine JCB o ers, and the machines have proven perfect for our projects in sensitive areas.” He said operators were happy with the machines and said their battery life is proving to be “excellent”. “We recently used the 19C-1E for a full shift breaking out concrete and there was still charge left at the end of the day which is amazing.” e new electric machines join an impressive eet of JCBmachinery including a JCB 6T-2 Dumper, JCB telehandler, 220X and 140XLC tracked excavator models. Meanwhile , Glasgow-based Luddon Construction has bought six new JCB machines including a brand-new Stage V 220X which runs on innovative green HVO fuel. Purchased by Glasgow-based Luddon Construction, the deal includes JCB 86C-2, JCB 220X and JCB 3CX models which join a eet of over 30 JCB machines including Teletruk, wheeled loading shovel, compaction, wheeled excavator, backhoe loader models along with JCB tracked excavators ranging from 1.5 through to 22 tonnes. Supplied by dealer Scot JCB, the new machines have been put to work on two major projects: Constructing a new build £8 million 47,500ft warehouse unit for Tulchan Developments and on site for Caledonian Water Alliance at their new Ibrox Pumping Station - carrying out concrete sub-structure works including drainage, ducting and hard landscape nishes. Luddon Construction Plant Manager Lawrence McGarry said: “Luddon Construction is committed to reducing its carbon emissions, and given the enormity of this project for Tulchan Developments, the HVO-fuelled JCB 220X seemed the perfect solution.
