Spring 2022 09 WERNERCO, manufacturer of BoSS® towers, is urging workers and employees to carry out PASMA training to ensure the safety of professionals working on-site as restrictions are lifted across the UK. Falls from height remain one of the biggest causes of workplace accidents, with the construction sector accounting for a significant proportion of these, so the company is stressing that ongoing training is essential to ensure safe work at height practice when using towers. Product Manager for WernerCo, Sophie Ellam, said: “With lockdown and a reduction in construction output over the past year, some workers and employees may not realise their PASMA cards may have expired. Also, with output increasing, more companies will be looking to take on employees, some of whommay not have had the appropriate training. “PASMA training remains safe to do so with the current restrictions in place and there is a range of courses to ensure employees are fully qualified and up to date with the latest guidance.” The PASMA accredited Towers for Users course is designed for those who are responsible for specifying, assembling, dismantling, using, altering, moving and inspecting access towers. The course runs for one day and provides both theoretical and practical training on tower legislation; PASMA codes of practice; hazards associated with using mobile access towers; and what should be avoided. PASMA training has continued despite even the toughest social distancing restrictions this year, with accredited training centres and instructors keeping courses COVID- secure for everyone who needed them, especially in sectors like construction, national infrastructure and maintenance. WernerCo is an approved PASMA training centre and offers industry standard training programs on the safe use of mobile access towers and low-level access equipment. SRL Traffic Systems is extending its portfolio of products designed to promote work zone safety, with the launch at the forthcoming Highways UK event of an exclusive partnership with barrier, gate and bollard manufacturer, Solar Gates UK. INSTABOOM solar/hybrid instant work zone protection barriers may now be hired from SRL. A well-established product on work zones throughout the UK, including SMART motorways and HS2 projects, INSTABOOM can be remotely operated and monitored by personnel with multiple responsibilities from elsewhere on site, away from oncoming traffic. SRL also offers the lighter-weight INSTABOOM Lite that was launched last summer for use on short duration operations, including those on rugged terrain. Both products are compatible with wireless GS6 height detection kits, and so can protect against overheight incursions. Solar Gates’ Managing Director Neil Sampson said: “We’re delighted to partner with SRL who are able to offer INSTABOOM clients a rapidly managed service from its extensive, 30 depot distribution network.” SRL won a RoSPA silver award for ensuring the health and safety of our roadworks staff last year and its hire division Managing Director Malcolm Johnstone said the introduction of INSTABOOM to its portfolio enabled the company to help traffic managers give a further level of protection to staff. INSTABOOM barriers are the only mobile, solar barriers in the market to meet the stringent BS/EN 13241-1 safety standards for gates, barriers and doors as well as being UKCA marked.
