08 Autumn/Winter 2021 INDUSTRY NEWS W ernick, the largest independent hirer of modular and portable accommodation in Britain, has acquired Manchester-based modular manufacturer and hire firm AVDanzer. The new acquisition means that Wernick will add additional manufacturing capabilities and increase its fleet with more than 2,000 cabins and modular bays. AVDanzer, also known as Danzer, supplies modular buildings for sale or for hire and has a long history of catering to some of the UK’s major infrastructure and development projects including the London Power Tunnels Project and the nuclear power station at Hinkley Point in Somerset. It also provides to schools, hospitals, offices, laboratories, sports facilities and more. Following the acquisition, Danzer will continue to operate from its sites in Manchester and Langley Mill. The manufacturing of anti-vandal steel that is currently based at Langley Mill will continue trading as AVDanzer. Meanwhile, the Brentwood depot will merge and become a part of Wernick’s depots in Essex and Kent. Wernick’s Group Chairman, David Wernick, said: “We have strong admiration for Danzer’s manufacturing capability and products, and after initial discussion it quickly became apparent that both family-owned businesses share the same values.” Director at AVDanzer, Dan Holloway, said the acquisition would provide clients with more flexible solutions. “We pride ourselves on being agile and innovative to adapt to new market conditions. The Covid pandemic has really driven the demand,” he said. G AP Group has completed the acquisition of Citypoint 2 on Tyndrum Street in Glasgow. The independent equipment hire company plans to relocate its current Head Office to the 38,836 sq ft office building, which overlooks the M8 motorway on the northern periphery of Glasgow City Centre. The family business has outgrown its current base in the city and the new Head Office is key to expansion plans for the company, which employs more than 1,800 people across 145 locations in the UK, with a turnover in excess of £220m, with plans to double in size over the next six years. It has experienced significant growth in recent years with the addition of 10 new divisions including Welfare Services, Survey & Safety, Non-Mechanical, Lifting, Trenching & Shoring and Tanker Services divisions and has ambitious plans to introduce further specialist divisions in the months ahead. Joint Managing Director of GAP Group Limited, Douglas Anderson, said: “GAP’s Head Office has been located at Carrick House for over 25 years now, where we originally started out with just 17 employees based in the building. This has now grown to almost 200 staff in total. “For this reason and to accommodate further expansion, our new office, based in the north of Glasgow city centre and twice the size of Carrick House has been purchased. A key use of the extra floorspace will be for data interrogation and logistical support to drive efficiency. “We are completely refurbishing this building and are determined to create a state of the art working environment for all current and future employees.” The building, which is arranged over ground and four upper floors, features a rooftop entertainment terrace and wellbeing area.
