28 June | July 2023 T R A I N I N G N E W S GTEC partners with Highlands College to launch Jersey's first net zero training facility With the drive to encourage more installers to diversify into heat pumps in order to achieve the nation’s target of 600k heat pump installs each year by 2028 intensifying, Vaillant has expanded its in-person training facilities, with the opening of a new partner centre in Aberdeen, Scotland. Working with Aberdeen Training Centre, this new partnership will help extend Vaillant’s course availability, so that installers have greater access to the support needed to make the transition to low carbon technologies. As part of the partnership, Vaillant has delivered ‘train the trainer’ sessions to the centre’s team across its range of high efficiency boilers, heat pumps and hybrid systems. Meaning staff at the Aberdeen centre can offer Vaillant product training to the same high standards found in one of Vaillant’s six Centres of Excellence. www.vaillant.co.uk/training Funded through Jersey Government's Retrain initiative, Highlands College has launched a net zero training facility. The provision is designed to ensure the college is equipped to satisfy the demand for training and assessment for the technologies needed to match Government ambitions linked to the Carbon Neutral Roadmap. The facility provides the resources required to train and assess candidates in the installation of a range of technologies, including Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) - expected to be one of the lead alternatives to fossil fuel heating. Prior to the opening of this provision, operatives could only gain the required qualifications by travelling off- island. On-island training and assessment enable more local operatives to upskill by reducing the barriers to accessing the training required to take advantage of the opportunities presented by Jersey's transition away from gas and oil. Furthermore, future apprentices in the building services sector will now have the opportunity to work on the latest low carbon heating solutions.
