Heat pumps have been recognised by the Government as a key technology in the push to reach Net Zero by 2050, with the technology featuring heavily in the Heat and Buildings Strategy published last year. Ambitions have been laid out to see 600,000 heat pumps installed in homes per year by 2028, with policy support in place to incentivise uptake in existing homes and roll out the technology in new homes built from 2025. Most recently, the Government announced a green VAT cut on energy eciency measures and heat pumps over a period of five years, and a £30 million Heat Pump Accelerator Competition to make British heat pumps. The Heat Pump Association (HPA) is the UK’s leading authority on the use and benefits of heat pump technology and includes many of the country’s leading manufacturers of heat pumps, components and associated equipment. Strong growth in green solutions and heat pumps led to a 21% rise in group revenue in 2021 to reach a new record high of EUR 3.4 billion The Viessmann Group is to invest EUR 1 billion over the next three years to extend its heat pump and green climate solutions portfolio. The investments are targeted to expand the family company’s manufacturing footprint and R&D labs. They will also help to strengthen Europe’s geopolitical energy independence. In addition to organic growth, the Viessmann Group also successfully managed to grow via acquisition in 2021, extending its family business-oriented partnerships in electric heating, district heating, after sales services and building automation. Viessmann became a shareholder in the leading heating, ventilation and air conditioning service company Value Added Engineering in Australia; acquired Pacifica Home Services, an installation/service platform with a focus on heat pumps in the UK; acquired Elektrotermex, a district heating specialist in Poland; and joined forces with the climate company Priva in the Netherlands, entering the smart horticulture and building automation sector. www.viessmann.co.uk BESA Awards back after two-year hiatus The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) has relaunched its National Awards after a pandemic enforced two-year break. The 2022 Awards will be presented ‘in-person’ on October 20 at a gala dinner in the Novotel London West hotel on the evening of the Association’s annual National Conference, which is being held during the day at the same venue and supported by Headline sponsor Mitsubishi Electric. The Awards, which are free to enter, will reward individuals, teams, and companies responsible for delivering projects, products, innovations, and initiatives that demonstrate excellence in building services engineering. To celebrate the return of the in-person format, BESA has launched several new categories which are open to both members and non- members including Net Zero Initiative, Product Innovation, and Women in Building Services. Its long-running management training award has been relaunched as The Manly Trust Management Training Bursary and there is a new Diversity and Inclusion category. All of this comes on top of BESA’s regular categories covering the full range of industry apprenticeships awarded across the regions. The Awards dinner will feature a celebrity host and live band so promises to be BESA’s most lavish to date. Entries are open now and the closing date is July 8.
