Crossed Grain November 2021
Nov 2021 Issue 115 Your charity newsletter We launched our No More Lost Childhoods appeal to help get more children diagnosed with coeliac disease, earlier. No one should have to lose their childhood to symptoms like stomach pain, sickness, slow growth, bloating and tiredness. Find out more and donate by scanning the code or online at: coeliac.org.uk/nomorelostchildhoods W e want to reach every parent and every healthcare professional so that no more children have a lost childhood because of coeliac disease. Our goal is that parents and carers know the signs of coeliac disease – and their GP or practice nurse does too. The only way we can do that is by campaigning to raise awareness and reaching as many people as possible with our message. Take it from Anna, who lost her childhood to coeliac disease: “The overriding memory of my childhood is that I felt ill. All the time. We need parents and especially GPs to have the knowledge needed to make a test happen. Please, support Coeliac UK’s campaign today – to make sure that no more childhoods are lost as mine was.” Anna £24.70 will help mums and dads get the information they need to request a coeliac disease test £54.35 would help us to reach a GP, nurse, dietitian or pharmacist who can refer the child to a specialist Donate the amount that’s right for you (or to reach both parents and healthcare professionals). Your help is crucial to get the word out. We’re the only charity for people with coeliac disease in the UK and we don’t receive any government funding. We’re so grateful for supporters like you who can help us make a difference and ensure there are no more lost childhoods. We are currently putting together a nationwide awareness campaign in Spring 2022. Help us save a childhood If you’re worried, go to your GP Although under pressure, particularly over the winter months, the NHS is still very much open - so if you’re worried about your child, yourself or family member, don’t delay and speak to your GP. You can also complete our online self assessment test - it will tell you if your child should get tested and give you a printed letter to take to your GP. It also applies to adults. Symptoms to watch out for in children: • stomach pain • sickness • slow growth • tiredness • bloating www.isitcoeliacdisease.org.uk Daisy, who was diagnosed age four and is now free from the pain and uncertainty of unexplained coeliac disease symptoms £79.05
