Crossed Grain November 2020
2 | SUPPORTER NEWS Between 19-20 September, over 250 of our fabulous supporters took part in Coeliac UK’s first ever Challenge Weekend. Over the course of the two days, our gluten free community completed a collective distance of over 2500km around the UK, smashing our original 1500km target. We virtually visited the iconic cities of Cardiff, Belfast, Edinburgh and Leeds, and even made a stop off at the UK’s most north easterly point, John O’Groats along our way. Thank you to everyone who took part in the weekend. Your amazing support has helped to raise over £20,000 - going someway to help with the lost income due to cancellation of many of this year’s usual challenge events. Your efforts have helped us to continue supporting everyone who needs to live gluten free. We spoke to one of our participants, Roisin Flanagan about how much this challenge meant to her: “I work in the charity sector, so I know the huge impact that Covid-19 has had on charities. Coeliac UK has been a lifeline to me since my diagnosis. There is so much misunderstanding about this condition, and I have found them to be hugely supportive. I really hope, as well as raising money, that the weekend raised awareness about the effects that coeliac disease can cause. The sponsorship and support I have received from friends and family has been amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge, the goal, and most of all contributing to a charity that has helped me come to terms with my coeliac disease. Great job!” Thank you for helping us reach our target! FUNDRAISING AUCTION For more information go to www.coeliac.org.uk/auction . Shopping on Amazon?
