Go to begambleaware.org In February, we launched an appeal to raise funds for our Research Fund, through our Journey to a Cure campaign. We have been overwhelmed with your response! Thank you to everyone who has supported the appeal so far. Our original target was to raise £65,000 to support a research call later this year, but so far we have already received £75,000 which is amazing. Thank you so much. We are still processing donations so if you haven’t had an acknowledgement yet we are getting there, and please know how grateful we are for your support. Your generosity will make a real difference to the research projects that we can fund in the future. In memoriam: Brian West A memorial gift is a special way to honour a loved one and we love to hear the stories from our community that are shared alongside these donations. Elaine West recently sent us her late husband, Brian’s story: “In 1995 Brian was diagnosed with coeliac disease after years of having a “ funny tummy”. He was discharged from hospital and we were left to “get on with it”. The local pharmacy sold a loaf of bread in a tin at a huge price and it tasted disgusting but no other gluten free food was available. We knew very little about coeliac disease and about Coeliac UK, however we soon found a Coeliac UK local group and this proved very helpful. Our social life meant even more people would learn about Coeliac UK and gluten free food. We had lifelong commitments to scouting and guiding, which helped many people to understand gluten free foods. Sadly, Brian died in August of an industrial disease. We collected donations at his funeral of £1,045 which was forwarded to Coeliac UK with my love and thanks for all the good work and support now available, and for further research.” Memorial gifts for your loved ones make a real difference to the vital work we do.
