Crossed Grain
April 2022 Issue 117 Your charity newsletter After the success of last year’s #ShineALightOnCoeliac campaign, we’re once again shining a light on coeliac disease – this time to help drive diagnosis of the condition. 1 in 100 people in the UK has coeliac disease , but only 36% are diagnosed. This leaves around 500,000 people struggling with unexplained symptoms. It’s a shocking number and we need to shine a light on coeliac disease to help those people understand what could be wrong and get on the road to recovery. We’ll be spreading the word about signs of coeliac disease and encouraging people with concerns to take our online self-assessment to check their symptoms. And you, our amazing gluten free community, can help by joining our challenge and contributing towards our target of £100,000 – crucial funds that can change lives. It’s so easy to get involved and have fun raising awareness. Just choose a challenge that suits you based on the theme of 100, sign up online, and set up a fundraising page. Here are some of our ideas to get you started: • Do something physical – run, skip, hula hoop or hop for 100 minutes during Awareness Week. Or if you want more of a challenge, why not do 100 press ups, sit ups or squats every day for the week? • Do something creative – bake 100 gluten free sparkly biscuits; have a family painting competition themed around ‘100’; or get together with friends and family to knit 100 squares – it’s up to you! You can get involved for just £3, and for this you’ll receive loads of online information and resources to print off at home or use on your social media to help drive awareness. Or for £10, you’ll get all the online resources, and a banner, bunting, balloons and a special event t-shirt and light-up wristband. We can’t wait to see what activities you have planned! If the challenge isn’t your thing, then you can still support the campaign. Donate to help us get to our target at coeliacuk.enthuse.com/profile and make sure you spread the word about coeliac disease! Every contribution can make a difference.
