October | November 2020 Volume 6 No.6 NEWS 04 NATIONAL ACR & HP AWARDS NOW SCHEDULED FOR JUNE There’s a new date for next year’s 10th National ACR & Heat Pump Awards due to uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 situation. Originally scheduled for January 21 at Manchester’s Midland Hotel, the event will now take place on June 10 at the same venue. The revised deadline for entering the awards is February 28, 2021. Organiser Juliet Loiselle, Publisher of the ACR Journal, said: “The January event had already achieved a huge take-up of table bookings, many more than is usual at this point in the schedule. “However, many marketeers have been on furlough and we felt that it would be too big an ask to expect them to provide entries on time. “Thank you to all who have managed to get their entries in early; there will be an opportunity to update them prior to judging.’’ For more information, see pages 46-47. Comfort cooling for the 60,000 sq ft site uses a combination of high e–ciency Carrier Idrofan 42NZE four-pipe fan coil units (FCUs), exposed thermal mass, and cast in air ducts supplying passively heated and cooled air to each fan coil unit. This combination helped enable the building to achieve a Building Research Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating of Excellent. Consultant Skelly & Couch specified the Carrier fan coils for use in the building’s perimeter-based heating and cooling system, with Senior Engineer Katharine Scott working alongside Director Mark Skelly. “The system was designed to be fully concealed or boxed- in, matching the high quality finish of the building,” said Skelly. “The Carrier units meet the specific requirements of the project well, and provide the energy performance and low noise operation required.’’ The modern addition to the Grade II-listed Victorian landmark is set to become the UK headquarters of a global live entertainment company and ticket provider. 200 delegates join Rankine 2020 Almost 200 delegates took part in the virtual Rankine 2020 conference, which highlighted some of the challenges facing the RACHP industry. IIR Rankine 2020 – Advances in Heating, Cooling and Power Generation, was organised by the Institute of Refrigeration as a 5-day online event. It incorporated over 90 speaker presentations, organised in 20 chaired sessions and 14 hosted cross-topic debate sessions called “co¦ee lounges”. With all technical sessions recorded, those who took part have been given repeat access to all presentations and papers until the end of this year. For anyone who missed the conference, a recording of speakers celebrating William Rankine’s life and legacy is available from the IOR’s website at ior.org.uk/events.
