29 ADVERTORIAL acrjournal.uk Environment Another guiding light was to grow responsibly. At each step, CDL has taken time to consider how its actions impacted the local area, and the opportunities and costs for everyone involved. Critically, this includes the impact of the business on the environment. “We are proud that, before it became fashionable to support the 'green agenda' and legislation was introduced, CDL was the first distributor to put measures in place to prevent sales of air conditioning to companies not qualified to handle refrigerants. We are also proud that CDL was the first UK supplier to become a certified carbon neutral company, “ says Darrel. This was achieved in 2011, several years before other suppliers embarked on this journey. Training Training has been a cornerstone of the business since it was established. CDL o ers a comprehensive range of courses covering all levels of technical ability, from introductory courses to advanced, enabling customers to progress and build the skills of sta . Courses moved on-line during Covid lockdowns, however the company is now o ering full in-person training from its branches. Due to increased demand and to help customers quickly get up-to-date, it has also put training ‘on-the-road’ to save people travelling to CDL o ces, where numbers are inevitably limited. In total, the company have trained around 3000 engineers to date over 20 years. With the emergence of R32-based VRF, there is a whole host of legislation and standards to take into account, and CDL has put in place structured training to ensure regulatory compliance and safety. This was first rolled out internally to sta , which now enables them to support customers with compliant design, selection and application on site. “Unlike R410A, R32 has very strict guidelines on leak detection to comply with IEC60335-2-40 and EN378. It isn’t as simple as selecting equipment against a heat load: we need to take into account room volume and refrigerant charge to give clear guidance to the client. With the help of Toshiba, we are keeping ahead of the curve on this and have made sure our sta are fully up-to-speed to support customers.” All sta are encouraged to join customer training sessions, and CDL hosts internal sta training on products and external services to help them appreciate the wider implications of our products in terms of buildings, logistics and the environment. “We are currently supporting two sta members through college, and employ external agencies for additional sta training,” says Darrel. “Ensuring we have the most experienced and best trained sta in the industry is key to our future success.” CMYK / .ai CMYK / .ai CMYK / .ai Picture: Eric Murphy ©
