December 2022 | January 2023 The Innovation Zone PRODUCTS & SERVICES 32 Volume 9 No.1 LG LAUNCHES NEW WATER-SOURCE VRF SYSTEMS LG has introduced a new range of water source VRF systems – Multi V Water 5 – which are interchangeable between heat pump and heat recovery installation. The units have a capacity between 22.4kW and 168kW and an allowable system pipe length of up to 500 metres for flexible installation. The same model can be installed as either a heat pump or a heat recovery system, depending on the design of the system. With a heat pump system all indoor units operate in the same mode – either cooling or heating, but not at the same time. With a heat recovery system, the indoor units can be heating in certain areas whilst cooling in others simultaneously. The energy recovered from the indoor units operating in cooling mode can be transferred to other units operating in heating mode and vice versa. LG says the the Multi V Water 5 products have a number of advantages, including a wider range capacity, higher efficiency for the same capacity, lower weight, longer installation pipe lengths and a smaller footprint. The product is equipped with LG’s 5th generation inverter scroll compressor which has a frequency range of 20 Hz-150 Hz. The new units can be integrated with Building Management Systems (BMS), using data communication protocols to integrate the different elements of the building services into the building’s automatic control network, using BACnet, Modbus and LonWorks. LG’s central controllers – its ACP5 and AC Smart 5 – have built-in BACnet and Modbus connections and can interface directly with BMS that supports these protocols. In addition LG’s products also support LonWorks and KNX gateways, providing a number of options for the design consultants to choose from. The units also come with LG Monitoring View (LGMV) – a troubleshooting and diagnosis tool for LG air conditioning systems. These help maintenance engineers to monitor operation and the connection ports are already built into all outdoor and compatible indoor units for the Multi V Water 5 VRF systems. “We’re pleased to be able to offer these new units here in the UK,” says LG’s Hong Cheng. “They are valuable additions to the range of equipment available to designers and engineers.” partner.lge.com/uk TRANE UNVEILS CITY ADVANTAGE Trane has launched the CITY Advantage, its new compact scroll water-cooled chillers and water source heat pumps with low global warming potential (GWP) R454B refrigerant. The models expand Trane's CITY portfolio of compact products designed to provide year-round cooling and/or heating with a reduced footprint to fit small commercial buildings, industrial facilities and processes. “Reducing the heating and cooling systems’ contribution to energy consumption and CO 2 emissions in buildings and cities is what innovation at Trane stands for,” said Louis Rompre, portfolio manager at Trane in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Available in capacities of up to 700kW from a single unit, the CITY Advantage’s modular design comes with new generation of Trane controls technology. Other key features include: • Wide operating maps allows for more hospitals, office buildings, larger apartment buildings, warehouses and industrial applications across Europe to benefit from the CITY Advantage capabilities and move away from fossil-fuel based heating systems : • Chilled water temperatures between -7°C and +25°C • Hot water temperatures up to +65°C • Optimised for connection to HVAC systems based on air handling units, under floor heating, radiators or chilled beams. www.Trane.eu CARRIER EXPANDS AQUAFORCE LINE-UP ON R1234ZE Carrier has extended its AquaForce Vision 30KAV liquid chiller range with hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerant R1234ze with the addition of five new higher-capacity models. There are five new sizes, covering 900kW, 1000kW, 1100kW, 1200kW and 1300kW cooling capacities. The chillers are based on variable-speed screw compressors designed to deliver outstanding energy efficiency and environmental performance, plus quick and easy installation and servicing. All chillers in the range are designed to exceed European Ecodesign requirements for efficiency and operating sound levels. The top efficiency version (option 119+) has a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of up to 5.55 for comfort cooling applications, and a Seasonal Energy Performance Ratio (SEPR) of up to 6.95 for high-temperature process cooling duties. Use of ultra-low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant R1234ze with a reduced charge ensures low direct carbon-equivalent emissions, while close matching of compressor speed to cooling load and optimisation of chiller performance reduce energy use and help minimise indirect emissions. The entire range is available with a range of options, including a low-noise version, electronically commutated (EC) fans, and partial and total heat recovery heat exchangers. www.carrier.com/commercial/en/uk/products/ air-conditioning/air-cooled-chillers/30kavize/ index.html
