07 NEWS Energy recovery boosts new NHS call centre A new NHS 24 call centre opened in Scotland to alleviate pressures on the rest of the NHS and social care is benefitting from improved energy e ciency after ventilation specialists S&P UK installed its RHE heat recovery range. Around 140 sta have moved into the new premises including call handlers, nurses, and psychological mental health practitioners to help facilitate higher demand for the NHS 24 service following the redesign of urgent care. Funded by the Scottish Government, NHS 24 has taken more than 10,000 sq ft of space at Caledonian House, Dundee, to occupy the third floor. Up to 300 sta could eventually be based at the four-storey building. S&P UK was appointed to supply two high-e cient heat recovery units – the RHE 3500 and RHE 2500 – which were both flat-packed delivered to help with assembly and installation. The units benefit from energy e ciency of up to 88% using thermal wheel heat recovery technology, helping to reduce carbon footprint and heating bills amid rising energy costs a ecting all organisations and building owners. Carrier cooling for Manchester Goods Yard The landmark Manchester Goods Yard development Manchester Goods Yard, a new building inspired by the industrial warehouses of Brooklyn, New York, has been equipped with Carrier AquaForce Vision 30KAV air-cooled chillers delivering 2.4MW of cooling. Three of the award-winning chillers were installed by NG Bailey to support the development's Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating of Excellent, and are used in combination with o -site Modern Methods of Construction to reduce waste, improve quality and minimise the building's carbon footprint. The chillers provide air conditioning for the building's 333,000 square feet/31,000 square metres of open plan o ce space, retail and leisure facilities that form the centrepiece of Enterprise City, a new digital technology hub that will be home to creative and media companies. The 11-storey building, at the heart of Manchester's St. John's regeneration area, includes a mix of café bars, restaurants and leisure facilities, designed to create a vibrant neighbourhood in which to live and work. The chillers are equipped with variable-speed screw compressors and dual variable-speed pumps, plus Carrier's proprietary Greenspeed intelligence control system for enhanced energy e ciency. Given the premium application, low operating sound-level was a key requirement, and the units are equipped with bespoke acoustic treatment packages to further minimise noise levels. Three Carrier AquaForce Vision 30KAV chillers were installed at Manchester Goods Yard Vector eCool reduces emissions for Dawsongroup Commercial vehicle supplier, Dawsongroup truck and trailer has taken delivery of three Carrier Transicold Vector® eCool™ units, the world's first fully autonomous, all-electric engineless refrigerated trailer system. An integrated energy recovery system converts the kinetic energy generated by the trailer axle and brakes into electrical power, which is then stored in a battery and powers the refrigeration unit – making what is claimed to be the industry's first fully autonomous system with no direct carbon dioxide or particle emissions. John Fletcher, managing director, Dawson Group, said: "We've been working with Carrier for more than 25 years. They are peerless in the industry for quality, support and innovation – so we were excited to see the Vector eCool in action, and we weren't disappointed. Now, we want to showcase these trailers to customers so that they can see for themselves how the technology can deliver a cost-e ective alternative to diesel power that ticks all the right boxes from an environmental perspective." The trailers can be plugged into the electrical grid when parked and fully charged within two hours using a standard five-pin, three- phase plug. www.carriertransicold.co.uk .
