Thornton & Ross, one of the UK’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturers, has taken an open plan o ce with meeting and breakout rooms at The Globe Mill in the village of Slaithwaite, near Huddersfield. Built in 1887 for textile production, the site comprises two five-storey mill buildings which have been sympathetically transformed to provide 80,000 sq ft of business space. Air conditioning and ventilation contractor Airtec Services Yorkshire used 15 ducted fan coil units connected to two VRF heat recovery systems throughout, with seven, 4-way cassettes installed in some of the meeting rooms. The VRF systems achieve high operating e ciency and reduce the building’s environmental impact by transferring heat energy between rooms that require cooling and areas that require heating. An innovative design feature sees the high static 22kW ducted units connected to fabric air socks, which create a more even air distribution in open plan areas and are more aesthetically pleasing as all equipment is visible, due to the exposed ceilings which have been retained in keeping with the building’s industrial heritage. To enhance indoor air quality for the occupants, Fujitsu fresh air energy recovery ventilation (ERV) has also been installed. Solstice L40X is a low GWP hydrofluoroolefin (HFO)-blend solution for commercial refrigeration applications. Its GWP below 150 allows retailers to remain compliant with hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) phase-down requirements and contribute to sustainability goals. The solution has the highest capacity and largest charge size of any A2L refrigerant with a GWP of less than 150, allowing for a lower run time ratio and greater architecture flexibility, helping to drive down total cost of ownership. Solstice L40X systems can be installed and serviced by a large contractor base. “Our team constantly works to develop the latest refrigeration equipment that o ers the supermarkets and retailers we serve a way to advance their sustainability targets and save money,” said Bob Landi, vice president and general manager, Heatcraft Refrigeration Products. “Trusted, low-GWP, energy-e cient refrigerants such as Honeywell Solstice L40X is exactly the type of solution we look for when creating new technologies that meet our customers' needs and regulatory requirements.”
