As reported in January’s Potato Review , the organisation has been formed by representatives from across the British potato industry and the board includes some members of the original working group. Inaugural Chairman Mark Taylor explained that for the organisation to be able to represent the industry with authority, the number of members needs to demonstrate that the group has a mandate for representation. “GB Potato has the opportunity to raise political awareness in a way no other existing body can do today,” he said. “We must make the voice of the potato sector heard. We are not just facing a ‘single issue’ but an increasingly long list of pressures and impacts that potentially will change UK potato production forever. We need to act as a collective group now.” Since the demise of AHDB Potatoes, there is a need for a voice within the potato industry that can represent all areas but without the statutory levy, he said, in urging people to sign up. “GB Potatoes aims to become that voice and to act as a hub to facilitate communication, provide a platform for members to work in partnership and to defend the reputation of the industry. To do this, we need growers and other industry partners to sign up now.” The organisation will act as a hub to facilitate communication, provide a platform for members to work in partnership and to defend the reputation of the industry. “Waiting to see how it goes will not work, as without the membership it cannot exist. It is a chicken and egg situation where in order to achieve our aims we need to have su—cient membership. Without that membership we cannot achieve anything.” For more details and to register, visit https://www.gb-potatoes.co.uk . Product launched tomeet consumers ‘sensory’ demands LAMB Weston’s newly-launched product, REALLY Crunchy Fries, has been created in response to a growing demand for sensory dining experiences and sustainable ingredients according to the company’s UK Marketing Manager, Pete Evans. “Expectations on foodservice operators have never been higher,” he said, adding: “Every element of a dish needs to deliver a great quality sensory experience that goes beyond just taste.” “We are not just facing a ‘single issue’ but an increasingly long list of pressures and impacts that potentially will change UK potato production forever.”
