Potato Review

CONTENTS www.potatoreview.com POTATO REVIEW MAY/JUNE 2022 3 Editor’s letter PULLING together the May issue brought plenty of challenges for the Potato Review team, with several of us oored by the COVID-19 virus, but we have soldiered on and have so much to share in this issue that it’s good to nally have put it to press and be able to look through the magazine at our leisure. Read about the latest challenge undertaken by the Stirling family, who have grown potatoes near Montrose for around three decades and have been supplying products to schools and hospitals across Scotland. Elsewhere in Montrose, another grower has been trialling a new natural biological treatment and we took time to catch up with him. In Norfolk, another grower taking part in a 12-month project implementing more regenerative, nature-based farming techniques shares his experiences, while we also report on recent biostimulant trials and a three-year research project looking at sustainable ways to e ectively suppress pests and pathogens using cover crops. Herbicide strategies are detailed in one of our focus features while in another, we look at the performance of one harpin protein- based material that might help suppress blackleg. We look at some of the insights and news shared at the recent Bayer Crop Science conference, and various application tips are shared as we look at in-furrow techniques elsewhere. You can also catch up with the latest machinery news and nd out what’s been going on in the potato markets overseas. Happy reading!
