6 MODERN BUILDING SERVICES NOVEMBER 2022 INDUSTRY NEWS Veolia uses the latest pipe relining innovation to maintain district heating in Sheffield In a first for the UK, Veolia is using the latest carbon lining pipe technology for maintaining the integrity of the heat distribution system serving the buildings and homes connected to the 44km long Sheffield District Energy Network. By relining the pipes, with carbon fibre and epoxy resin sleeve, this innovative process removes the need to excavate large areas to reach pipe sections, which greatly lowers the need for disruptive roadworks. The resulting reduction in civil engineering can cut the CO 2 emissions of these maintenance operations by up to 80%. The inherent strength of carbon lining makes it self-supporting and is designed to completely take over the workload of the host pipe, supporting the weight of the system water, and maintaining the integrity of the system. www.veolia.co.uk J SWright lakes challengers raise £5,000 for Molly Ollys Intrepid teammembers from Birmingham building services provider J SWright have raised more than £5,000 for their adopted charity after completing an epic challenge in the Lake District. Twenty-six staff and three suppliers tested their fitness, commitment and determination by taking part in the Lakes Triple Challenge in aid of Warwick- based Molly Ollys, which cares for children with life-threatening illnesses. They cycled through the trails of Grizedale forest, trekked to the summit of the 803-metre-high Old Man of Coniston and kayaked across ConistonWater, one of the UK’s largest lakes, covering more than 24 miles over an eight-hour period. Staff from J SWright and its sister companyWright Maintenance have now raised more than £7,000. Molly Ollys provides emotional and financial support, where appropriate, to children throughout the UK with terminal and life-threatening illnesses. The new partnership is set to revolutionise the way homeowners can access and pay for heat pump technology and overcome one of the main barriers to achieving the government’s target of 600,000 heat pump installations by 2028. The flexible payment options will be made available to Daikin’s 1,500 approved residential installers fromOctober, enabling installers via the hiber platform to offer homeowners alternative ways to finance heat pump and air conditioning installations. Under the new partnership, Daikin installers will be able to extend the range of payments options their customers can select, including finance, through use of the hiber platform. The installer can quote for the job using hiber and, once the customer has accepted, will be able to direct their customers to the hiber portal for a range of payment options. Doubt has been cast in recent months about the achievability of the government’s annual heat pump installation target, in large part due to the lack of financing options for consumers to help them pay for heat pump technology. www.hiber.com
