18 MODERN BUILDING SERVICES NOVEMBER 2022 FEATURE HEATING T he HVAC market is now in a unique position that might only happen once in lifetime. It really is an opportunity to shape the heating and control industry for the foreseeable future or more. It is imperative that future products not only use less energy, but the control systems adopted maximise energy use and safeguard valuable resources such as water, and gas, ensuring that nothing is wasted. All this whilst maintaining a sustainable economic environment i.e. continuing to make a profit whilst delivering cost effective technology. This can only be achieved by maximising the use of new and disruptive technology, new developing controls and state of the art communication technology that can really help to achieve minimum energy usage. There have been significant improvements in technology for mechanical and electrical controls. It would be beneficial for the saving of energy if the most suitable technology was used to maximum effect. “But how can that technology be used and improved by its combination with social media for such things as updating, notifying, and monitoring to ensure the best security, control, and maximum awareness is achieved?”. This means removal of the demarcations between electrical technology, mechanical engineering, public health awareness, and delivering the introduction of the best solution for a particular application. If new computer software, or the application of existing technology in a new application gives the best solution to achieve the desired result then this must be the adopted standard. If the written word of the consultants specifications is not able or is too complicated to best convey the information or intention Then more practical methods should be used with a common platform that allows the consultant to easily demonstrate the application. The days of ambiguously written specifications that are sometimes out of date, easily misunderstood and possibly not the best method to explain a complicated mathematical concept that has taken time to understand, should be consigned to history. Martin Lowe , Technical Director at M Lowe Consulting (working exclusively for Pettinaroli Italy and UK), discusses the need of the HVAC market to use disruptive technology to make the advances needed to change the way we use energy and water supplies. How disruptive technologies are forcing much needed change in buildings
