Personally, I view a new year as starting a new chapter in your life both personal and business. I believe it gives us an opportunity to evaluate and then draw a line under the past year. It’s then our chance with refreshed hope and ambitions to write an incredible story in 2023. Happy NewYear! In this issue, we focus on Working Buildings, Commissioning and Net Zero. On page 16 Paul Allen, head of power distribution at CMD Ltd, discusses the need for flexibility in the specification of power distribution systems for office buildings as the commercial property sector continues to adjust to new working cultures and practices. Eur Ing Dave Cooper, CEO of LECS (UK) an independent engineering consultancy for lifts and escalators, discusses how getting stuck in a lift is something that most people dread. It’s what happens next – i.e. who is tasked with releasing the trapped passenger - that has become the subject of an ongoing debate. To readmore turn to page 18. High temperatures are increasingly common in the UK, with four of the five hottest summers on record having happened since 2003. On page 28 TimMitchell, Sales Director at Klima-Therm, examines the likelihood of future heatwaves and discusses the implications for the cooling industry. In the final quarter of 2022 the awards season was in full swing and on page 22 the winners are revealed in 2022 Commissioning Specialists Association (CSA) awards programme. The CSA had a record number of submissions across the seven categories and this years’ programme again produced some truly exceptional entries from right across the commissioning arena. On page 31 BESA tell us about the Awards part of their National Conference and Awards 2022. The awards dinner was back to celebrate the best and brightest in our sector after an unscheduled two-year break. The awards included several exciting new categories designed to showcase the important role our industry plays in crucial areas like energy efficiency, air quality, and building safety. The awards, which were free to enter, celebrate individuals, teams, and companies responsible for delivering projects, products, innovations, and initiatives that demonstrate excellence in building services engineering. Congratulations to all the finalists and winners. David Crowson © Portico Publishing 2022
