This issue is looking at heathcare in our Vertical Focus, Heating; technologies & techniques as well as making installations effective & efficient in our Installers View. On page 14 Ross Giles, UK Equipment Leader at Trane, discusses the profound change in the way that hospitals manage their requirements for heating and cooling. Driven by the need to respond to climate change, the challenges to our energy supplies, and the mission of the NHS to improve our health and wellbeing, hospitals are rising to those challenges. Innovations that make heating more efficient, more sustainable, and healthier are being adopted in hospitals across the country. Steve Simmonds, Special Projects Engineer for Spirotech, outlines the importance of better collaboration between system designers, specifiers and contractors to ensure the optimum health of heating systems. Specifying the right products for the right applications is essential to the long-term health of new buildings or renovations. Key to this is the cooperation between specifiers and contractors; ensuring that what’s outlined in the planning stage is actually carried out at the build stage, and that all parties involved in building and maintenance understand how to properly manage it to ensure optimum health and efficiency. Read more on page 16. In recent years, events have shown just how important indoor air quality (IAQ) is to a building’s design. With effective ventilation systems crucial to maximising peoples’ wellbeing and preventing ill health, on page 26 DavidMillward, Group Product Manager at Elta Group, looks at ways to ensure these systems are working to their highest capability.
