MODERN BUILDING SERVICES FEBRUARY 2022 3 EDITOR’S COMMENT T he Building Safety Bill, currently making its way through Parliament, is set to change how certain buildings are constructed, maintained and made safe. CHAS, the supply chain risk management expert, highlights ten issues that will affect construction supply chains in 2022 on page 9 of this issue. Indoor Air Quality is more prevalent than ever. This month sees us delving deeper in to how to improve and best practice for achieving better air quality in buildings. Adam Taylor, CEO ARM Environments explains how since the beginning of 2020, indoor air quality has gone from a very niche topic to mainstream news and now perhaps to overload. He feels there has also been a rush of new blood into a fledgling market with many people hoping to capitalise on prospective funding like that made in the USA, the so called “Covid Dollars”. Turn to page 20 to read how Matteo Dall’Ombra, VRV Specialist, Product Management and Engineering Group at Daikin explains how by taking a whole-building approach to HVAC, it is possible to balance the drive for energy efficiency with the need to improve indoor air quality. Smart Building Challenges and Opportunities: Phil Cross, CEO of amBX, states: We need to be aware of all of the challenges and opportunities within themarket both for our own development but also to be able to smart enable other solutions and continue to improve the industry. To succeed, we need to work together. No one company can achieve truly smart buildings that address all of the internal and external requirements alone Forget the Office of the Future –TheTime is Now: COVID-19 has caused a complete re-evaluation of how office spaces work. The previously glacial shift towards flexibleworking and smarter office spaces was suddenly turbo-charged as the “the office of the future” became “the office of now”. Turn to page 12 to read howGeorge Pritchard, Technical Director at Scenariio, believes this changemeans that businessesmust pivot their thinking towards increasingly smart design, which has nowbecome a critical way to attract and retain clients. Finally, the 25th of March has been confirmed as the deadline for the National ACR & Heat Pump Awards 2022. This year will see the great & the good attending the Queens Hotel, Leeds on the 9th of June to celebrate excellence across the HVAC industry. A solid date for your diary!
