Bursars Review | Spring 2019 | Sample

Feature Spring 2019 www.theisba.org.uk 12 What documents are required? The applicant will need their passport which should have a chip in and their biometric residence card if they are a non- EU family member. They will also need to upload a photo (which can be taken on their phone). No proof of residence is required as these checks are carried out in the background by the Home Office. However, as the checks are limited if the applicant believes they are eligible for Settled Status instead of Pre-Settled Status they will have the option to upload documents to demonstrate their residence. This is a list of acceptable documents https://www. gov.uk/guidance/eu-settlement-scheme-evidence-of- uk-residence How much does it cost? The Government has announced that the previously published fees for applying under the Scheme of £65 per adult and £32.50 per child would now be waived when the Scheme is fully rolled out in March 2019. Anyone who has taken part in the pilot, or will be taking part in the pilot and pays the fee will be able to apply for reimbursement. How long will processing take? Under the pilot scheme, decisions in the majority of cases were being made within one to two days. However, once the Scheme is fully rolled out it is expected that a decision will still be made quickly and within days rather than months. Note: If an applicant already holds permanent residency/ indefinite leave to remain (which has not lapsed), they will not need to go through the whole application. They can tick the relevant box and provide the reference number. They should then be automatically issued with settled status at no charge. What status will applicants get? Settled Status if they have been in the UK for five years and Pre-Settled Status if they have not. What confirmation will the applicant receive? They will initially receive instantaneous confirmation that they are being considered for either Settled or Pre-Settled Status. If they confirm they are happy with that preliminary decision they will then receive an email with a PDF letter confirming that they either have Settled Status or Pre-Settled Status. Non-EU nationals will receive a biometric residence permit (BRP).
