D3 13.55 – 14.55 SAFEGUARDING ■ contextual safeguarding • peer-on-peer abuse Joanne Walker Joanne Walker is a research assistant at the University of Bedfordshire. Since joining the University in 2015, she has worked across a range of projects involving the production of child sexual exploitation (CSE) guidance, using evidence to improve criminal justice responses to CSE and using creative and meaningful participatory research to explore young people’s perspectives on how we can support healthy child development after sexual abuse. She joined the contextual safeguarding team in 2017 and since then, has been working on the Beyond Referrals project, which aims to explore the enablers and barriers to addressing harmful sexual behaviour in schools and to support both local authority partnerships and schools to develop effective approaches grounded within a contextual safeguarding framework to address this issue. D4 13.55 – 14.55 LOCKDOWN Garry Evanson Garry is a chartered security professional and is currently head of security and emergency planning at Westminster Abbey, having previously been group head of security operations for the global banknote and passport manufacturer, DeLaRue plc. Prior to this he was a lieutenant colonel in the Royal Military Police having served in Iraq, Bosnia and West Africa. His broad security background is complemented by a MSc in Policing Science (Portsmouth) where he won the Vathek Postgraduate Prize, a PgDip in Security Management (Loughborough) and the PGCE in Higher Education (Surrey). He is vice president and immediate past chairman of the Security Institute and was involved with the launch of the Chartered Security Professional (CSyP) programme. His other experience includes regularly presenting at OSCE Vienna and conferences in Asia. He is the present chairman of the Royal Military Police Association (Hampshire) and previously a trustee of Victim Support for more than nine years. D5 13.55 – 14.55 BUILDING ON EMPLOYER BRAND TO AID RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION Heather Styche-Patel Heather Styche-Patel, head of insight and client services at RSAcademics, has worked in the education sector for 25 years. She has worked with hundreds of schools, leading large-scale projects including strategic reviews, rebranding programmes, development and fundraising reviews and change management initiatives. Heather is one of RSAcademics’ senior strategy consultants and also leads their trends and thought leadership research. Prior to joining RSAcademics, Heather worked in both the independent school and state sector, and was director of marketing and communications at the University of Surrey. Originally graduating with a degree in law and German, Heather chose to pursue a career in education management and went on to study for a Masters in Business Administration, graduating from Henley Management College in 2000. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the Market Research Society. Keynote 15.40 – 16.25 A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE Carrie Gracie (See Carrie’s biography on page 18) CLOSING REMARKS John Pratten, ISBA chair John was commissioned into the Regular Army, which ended (the Regular part anyway) in 1989. He then spent three years in business-to-business PR working largely with broadcast media before becoming director of development and administration at Sutton Valence School. From there he went to work in a field marketing agency as operations director planning sales promotion campaigns for fast-moving consumer goods companies like Walkers Snack Foods and Müller Dairy. In 1997, he joined Box Hill School, where he has seen many changes in a school of 240 pupils when he started to 425 now. He will retire from Box Hill shortly after the conference to start life as a consulting bursar and to join the TPS pension board early next year.
