Each time the ACR Journal Refrigerant Update is published we seem to be facing some significant imminent change to the sector. This year is no different. In 2018 we were facing a big drop in quota allowances to 63% of the 2015 baseline figure and in 2019 we were approaching the additional service and use bans of refrigerants with a global warming potential (GWP) of 2500 or more. Now we face two big changes in the coming months: another big step-down in quota allowances – by a further 18% on the baseline figure (29% in real terms) – and another review of the F-Gas Regulations themselves which may well have a huge and long-lasting effect on the entire industry.
