December 2020 | January 2021 NEWS 04 AIREDALE CONFIRMS RECORD ORDER Leeds-based Airedale International has confirmed the largest single order in its 46-year history. The order is for a Frankfurt-based data centre and is worth approximately £10m. Airedale established a dedicated European data centre solutions team just over a year ago under Jonas Caino and says it is now reaping the fruits of this investment, following last year’s announcement of the contract with US-based data centre provider Cyrus One. Having seen turnover increase by more than 20% in the last financial year, and with a strong forecast for the year ahead despite the pandemic, Airedale is now taking the next step and looking to replicate this success in the US market, home of Airedale’s parent company Modine. The next six months will see the establishment of Airedale’s US data centre solutions team, trading under the “Airedale by Modine” brand. The team will be headed up by Business Development Director Stuart Kay, supported by an engineering development team appointed at Airedale’s headquarters in Leeds earlier in the year. Managing Director Tony Cole said: “Whilst undoubtedly one of the most challenging trading periods our country has seen for a very long time, the last 12 months has seen a sustained period of growth for Airedale International. We have worked hard to attract interest from both the European and US data centre markets and will continue to invest in this area, where demand is high.” Airedale International MD Tony Cole Cool Concerns leading the way on A2L training Training provider Cool Concerns has developed what it believes to be the UK’s first training rig for A2L refrigerants. The fully working system, designed in accordance with EN 378:2016, operates on R454C (Opteon XL20) and gives installers and service engineers the opportunity to have hands-on experience with one of the new lower flammability A2L refrigerants now coming on- stream. Developed by Chemours, R454C has a Global Warming Potential of 148, just under the 150 GWP threshold. The training rig is based on a BITZER LH32E/2KES-05Y air-cooled condensing unit, equipped with the company’s semi-hermetic Ecoline compressor, connected to a LU-VE evaporator. Stephen Benton, Director of Cool Concerns, said: “The clock is ticking on higher GWP refrigerants, and the industry is preparing to make the next big step to the use of lower-GWP A2L alternatives. A lot has been written and debated about the use of A2Ls. However, it all becomes much clearer when you come face-to-face with a working system.” Kevin Glass, Managing Director of BITZER UK, said: “We commend Cool Concerns’ proactive approach in this key area, to help industry make the transition to lower GWP alternatives. We have a common goal in supporting contractors and end users to make the switch; BITZER’s comprehensive range of low GWP solutions is proven and ready to meet the need.” For more details on A2L training courses, contact Stephen Benton via steve@coolconcerns.co.uk DAIKIN PARTNERS WITH EDF IN HEAT PUMP DRIVE Daikin UK has joined forces with electricity supplier EDF to help customers make their homes more energy eªcient and support the decarbonisation of homes in the UK.
