Grant’s Training Academy is updating its rewards voucher initiative for heating engineers who attend heat pump training. When candidates complete the course they will be issued with a voucher which will entitle them to claim either £125 cashback on the purchase price of an Aerona³ heat pump or set-up assistance, free of charge, for one Aerona³ heat pump installation. This set-up assistance service will be provided by one of Grant UK’s in-house Field Service Engineers. www.grantuk.com/professional/training Grant UK has also launched an online service providing homeowners with information on sustainable heating solutions. The ‘Knowledge Hub’ is a new feature on the Grant UK website that visitors can access via the Homeowner section. It is split into five zones, with each designed to help consumers increase their understanding of renewable heating technologies. www.grantuk.com/knowledge-hub Cascade ready to deliver full control Panasonic’s Aquarea Cascade Control interface allows for establishments such as supermarkets, hospitals, care homes and hotels to control up to 10 Aquarea air source heat pumps to deliver and remotely manage the demands for energy-e‘cient heating and cooling across their organisations. The system has a large touch screen display and provides control for up to 10 Aquarea air-to-water heat pumps, connected at any one time, to run simultaneously or in cascade mode and creating a system with capacity up to 160kW. The controller can also connect to solar photovoltaic panels and 3-way valves for cooling, ideally suited for commercial and hospitality applications with additional means of energy sourcing which require specific solutions or programmes, yet can all be managed using one device. With its own built-in MODBUS IP, the Aquarea Cascade Controller integrates with the building’s BMS communication and can have up to 3 M-BUS devices connected to manage heating, cooling, and domestic hot water (DHW). Panasonic says Cascade Control is being increasingly utilised across many sectors to make use of parallel-connected heat pumps and the benefit of remote access for management and maintenance resulting in multiple savings. In a recent project at a care home in the UK, six Panasonic Aquarea H Series T-Cap 16kW air-to-water heat pumps, along with a Cascade Controller, have been installed to provide underfloor heating to 2022m2 of floor space. Cascade can control up to 10 Aquarea heat pumps NIBE policy paper for ground source installations NIBE Energy Systems has published a policy paper which includes a scheme to support the installation of ground source heat pump (GSHP) infrastructure to enable greater uptake in the UK. The paper, which has been shared with BEIS and industry representatives, proposes a radical new policy solution to fund 100 years of GSHP infrastructure. This would help finance the groundworks for GSHPs, making the cost comparable to gas boilers, through a fee paid regularly by the household. This will pay back the initial capex for the groundworks and create warmer, low-carbon new build homes. The ability to install a renewable heating system without the requirement for additional space is an attraction for developers with space at a premium on new build sites. The technology ožers a space-saving solution for large developments, but NIBE says significant deployment is being held back by higher costs. It adds that mechanisms to support deployment must be tailored to ensure that all homes and business are able to access low carbon heating. NIBE believes that the groundworks needed for GSHPs should be seen as a long-term infrastructure investment and policy should be designed to encourage deployment. Incentivising energy infrastructure investments such as boreholes should help to deliver increased uptake of this low-carbon technology.
